MAY - EPISODE V: SPRING 2022

 WISDOM OF THE SAGES
EPISODE V: SPRING 2022

Hello People of the World;

I keep putting these out later and later. I hate that. I gave myself a deadline of the last day of the month to post these and I have been failing to keep it. I think the issue is that I used to keep up notes about thoughts and happenings over the month that I could rely on to make the writing but I have been at the extremes of too lazy, then too busy to keep them. I have only myself to blame.

I’d chat the weather here but I cannot recall the weather in May. I’m sure that we all complained about it.

As always: Stay safe. Stay home.

 All right, let’s get going:

1:[ This virus really showed how equal we all really are: How easily we all put faith in a government when we think “our people” are in charge. Yet, looking back, nothing’s really changed since the 80’s.

2:[ I am always tickled at the continuing hypocrisy of YouTubers and their sponsorships. I remember when taking money to promote a product made you a sellout. That’s is what the term meant. It goes to show you even the Millennial Socialist Corp will pull the Newspeak thing and change the definition of words. A Sellout is now “NOT doing what I love and getting paid for it.” How much they spout anti-capitalism yet take the corporate dollar shows me that we will never learn….

3:[ My Quarantine Hot Take #1: “The Wicker Man” is actually not that bad of a movie. At least, not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

4:[ Speaking of: The new Doctor. It’s a black man. So, we’ll see how the “fans” react. I still think they should have had ten more actresses in a row to portray The Doctor, as it would be fair to the ladies.  It’s amazing how much certain people are still getting mad over black and brown people being represented in our childhood franchises….

5:[ My little girls has been on a Nicolas Cage Kick of late, in preparation for “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”. I watched a lot of Nic Cage movies and found that his performance in “Outcast” with Hayden Christiansen, is just him doing a Gene Simmons impression. Still, I gave it a half-star, which still makes it higher rated than “Wind River”….

6:[ Month of May New Movie Reviews:

- Turning Red: Saw this on streaming and thought it was one of the best animated films in a while. Pixar really dropped the ball in not letting this screen in theaters. A story about the literal changes that a teen girl goes through enraged white boy US society so much, they overturned Roe v. Wade. (Spolier. I’m writing this on June 25th) Great film that touches on Mother-Daughter Dynamics. It was real and emotional and honestly, if it was released to theaters before “Pixar’s Lightyear”, would have been a sensational smash on the order of “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”. Go see this if you haven’t already….

- Pig: Another streaming view. A surprisingly good Nic Cage film. I know he does a lot of shlock, but here, he does a very understated film. I once saw a video of him talking about all of his movie roles and he puts a lot of thought into every single performance. I have a new respect for his acting now. Plus, my little girl is on a Nic Cage Binge with “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” coming out soon. Here, Cage puts in a solid, quiet performance in a film that is essentially a crossover of “John Wick” and “Ratatouille”, and… it surprisingly works….

7:[ Quarantine Hot Take #2: First-time viewers should be watching the Star Wars movies in numerical order, which is better than watching them in release order. I mean, George Lucas put numbers on them for a reason….

8:[ We cannot go back to “Normal” all after this: I mean, we’re letting school kids get killed again!

9:[ I am aggrieved at the passing of actor Fred Ward. He was an actor that I very much wanted to work with. He has been in some of my enjoyable movies: Remo Williams, Tremors, Time Riders, The Prince of Pennsylvania, of course, The Right Stuff and The Player, but how can I not mention “The Dark Wind” as Leaphorn, and then “THUNDERHEART!” Man, it would have been a great thing to direct him as an actor. He will be missed….

10:[ I started a brand new full-time job at Truth & Documentary as a Producer-Editor. I have been working at CAPE since 2018, I believe and while I will stick with that jobs as much as possible, I started as a Producer at a documentary production place called Truth and Documentary. We’ll see how well I can do this job….

That is it for this month.

I tried hard to keep my June thoughts out of this edition. A lot has happened in the meantime. I will work on being better with the deadline. Like I said before, I only have myself to blame.

As always, I invite you to comment, correct, or contradict anything I write here. I am open to a critical debate. Thanks for taking the time to check out what I write here and I will see you in a month.

Until next time, remember “I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control everything really are.”
