EPISODE III: SPRING 2021
Hello People of the World;
Here we are, it’s Spring again. People are getting back to normal. But we shouldn’t be. The weather is still chilly despite the warmer days. But hey, that is spring or you.
As always: Stay safe. Stay home.
All right, let’s get going:
1:[ Suddenly, I want Kathy Bates as a Disney Princess. I heard this mentioned by someone on the you tubes. I liked the idea. I imagine she's a grizzled older princess who has not claimed her throne due to her evil stepmother maintaining the throne through witchcraft. Sort of a Snow White alternate timeline….
2:[ Quarantine Discoveries: “Mank” is proof Hollywood still hates Orson Welles…
3:[ 2021 Movie Reviews:
The Dig – pretty interesting movie about the Sutton Hoo dig. Ralph Fiennes is beginning to excel at curmudgeonly roles. Overall, great look at Anglo colonization of historical artifacts….
The United States versus Billie Holliday – best picture I have seen so far. Andra Day is great in her first film role playing the legendary Billie Holiday. This of course, told though the male gaze of the FBI agent who followed her around to get her on a drug charge allowing the government to punish her for singing “Strange Fruit”. Day also sings the songs and though they sound similar, Day brings her own voice to the songs.
Nomadland – Another pretty good film about RV living. Francis McDormand is fantastic in this as usual. And who can resist the charms of David Strathairn?
Check these three films out when you can.
4:[ We definitively cannot go back to “normal”, yet it seems that is where everyone wants to be now. The two shootings this month bears this out. We will always want to sit, in what is basically just a room with tables, and insist the lower class serve us our food. We will insist on being heard and count on allies but, we will go right on ignoring Native American people and issues and history as always….
5:[ Finally saw the first two episodes of “Star Trek: Picard” via Pluto. I enjoyed them and it made me interested in the rest of the series. Unfortunately, I have no interest in subscribing to the app. Oh well. I honestly do not see why people have problems with these current Star Trek shows…
6:[ Started watching “Bakuman" on Hulu. It is a romance anime about two middle schoolers becoming manga artists. One does it to marry his crush. But what I find super interesting is the manga industry. The other interesting characters are the other manga artists and writers. It is a pretty compelling look at how the industry picks its next best thing. Also. It has caused me to start drawing again. It is inspirational in that sense I suppose. I am not doing full drawings again, but honing my sketching skills. So, I happy my little girl showed my this show….
7:[ Yeah, I’m never watching “The Snyder Cut”. I don’t like letting bullies win….
That is it for this month.
As always, I invite you to comment, correct, or contradict anything I write here. I am open to a critical debate. Thanks for taking the time to check out what I write here and I will see you in a month.
Until next time, remember “I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control everything really are.”
