WISDOM OF THE SAGES
EPISODE VIII: SUMMER 2021
Hello People of the World;
Here we are once again at the end of the month. The summer heat has been getting worse due to climate change.
As always: Stay safe. Stay home.
All right, let’s get going:
1:[ This virus really showed how equal we all really are: It exposes our idiocy in that we really think we are the heroes of our own stories, that we stand in the way of oppression and authoritarianism (sic), but not wearing a mask or getting a simple vaccine is the thing that will stop the takeover of the world. Get your shot dumbass and wear a mask. This shit ain’t over yet….
2:[ People are saying that this is the time for Native American representation. Nope. Only if you weren't looking for Native-produced/directed media for the last 30 years or more. Why are people acting like Natives in media are suddenly a new thing because of a few shows? Film was made for capturing our disappearance. We've been in film since it was invented. No one was looking for us and all the work we put in until now for some reason.
3:[ We went and saw “The Green Knight”. Adaptation of "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight". Half of the Top Review Team chanced it to the theater to see a movie. The last film we saw in the theater was the great "Roma" at the Music Box Theater. We wanted the return to the theater to be for a great film to live up to "Roma".
Nope. Didn't happen. While I did enjoy it, Gawain was played as a dumbass. It did remind me a lot of "The Favourite" in cinematography, camera work, and such. I guess I enjoyed them the same. Also, a very "Last Temptation…" shade was cast on this. Oh well. There have not been many good films in theaters these days. It is like the typical January slates got stretched over the quarantine schedule. NO RECOMMENDATION
4:[ I am writing a couple of mystery stories. I am adapting Sherlock Holmes to the Wind River Reservation. I had always threatened this and it always got a chuckle. It’s like I said in item #2 above. There only seems to be one way of telling Native American stories. I guess an Arapaho character cannot be as smart as Sherlock Holmes. They all got to be rez rats that make fun of educated Natives. Anyways, I started reading some Agatha Christie as a result to get a sense of tea cozy mysteries. So, “Sketch” has begun…
5:[ Speaking of novels: I had a couple of my e-books converted to printed form. “A Rez Tale” is up for sale ON THIS WEBSITE, and I printed a few copies of “The Autobiography of Blue Woman Volume One” for family and friends. Check out my first printed novel!
6:[ We cannot go back to “Normal” all after this: hearing about all these stupid fucks ranting about not getting vaccinated or mad about masks. Stupid. Just plain stupid.
7:[ The Top Shelf Criterion Collection returned with three new episodes recently. The FULL PLAYLIST IS HERE. I am also producing a couple of film reviews; “Metaphor Become Literal” about “Bone Tomahawk” and “Mother’s Ring” about Setsuko Hara and “Tokyo Story”, as well as, continuing my Literary Edition as a YouTube Shorts series called “Afterwords”. I will add more Criterion reviews as I pick up more blu-rays. Stay tuned.
That is it for this month.
I hope you stay safe and are smart about this new wave of the pandemic hitting us. Because, hoo-boy, hardly anyone else is. Stay safe and be careful.
As always, I invite you to comment, correct, or contradict anything I write here. I am open to a critical debate. Thanks for taking the time to check out what I write here and I will see you in a month.
Until next time, remember “I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control everything really are.”
