DECEMBER - EPISODE XII: WINTER 2020

WISDOM OF THE SAGES
EPISODE XII: WINTER 2020

Hello People of the World;

Here we are on the last day of 2020. Or past it as it seems. I hope you all have a great new year. I am not one for the mawkish but I hope your new year is good for you. To me, this past year was just like any other year.

As always: Stay safe. Stay home.

 All right, let’s get going:

1:[ This virus really showed how equal we all really are: we are all equally stupid in what we believe. That is all….

2:[ For so long, people have been going on about the “relationship” between Bert and Ernie. Of Sesame Street. From the Children’s Television Network. Many always speculate the nature of the relationship between two puppet characters. Jim Henson himself stated Bert and Ernie were about opposites being able to live with one another. They are friends and call each other friends; there is no doubt about it. But are they gay? Yes. Yes, they are.

But are they straight CIS friends? Yes, yes they are. Because they can be representative of whatever a person wants of them. Because of their dichotomy – they can be both and one or the other. Young people who are gay can see two people of the same sex living together, being of opposing character, and loving one another as friends, and, that that is okay. Because of what they actually represent in the abstract, from which we get the real lesson to learn: we can live together with differing points of view. We can coexist….

3:[ I had an idea on how to save the DC Movies. But it seems that Marvel beat me to the concept. I thought they could do crossover movies. Can you imagine Michael Keaton teaming up with Christian Bale and Ben Affleck? Or Grant Gustin, John Wesley Shipp, Erza Miller, even Kyle Gallner, Kenny Johnston, and for a deep cut, Rod Haase, in a Flashpoint event. Imagine Brandon Routh, Tom Welling, Tyler Hoechilin, Henry Cavill, and even Nic Cage fighting Darkseid, only to be saved by a CGI/Deepfaked Christopher Reeve and George Reeves. My best idea would be based on the “We Are Robin” concept, with Burt Ward in the old man Nightwing role ala Batman Beyond, coaching a bunch of new Robins with Chris O’Donnel. I mean, it would have been super fun and really cool to see these great characters interacting. But alas, Spider-man will be doing this…. DC loses again….

4:[ On the “Watchmen” comic series: I did not like the comic, nor the movie. I used to look up to these types of superheroes as a youth and found that “Watchmen” did not represent them as I felt they should have. That was my own bias. “Watchmen” took these archetypes and deconstructed them with the result being that superheroes, in any sense, would not be a good thing in reality. I still look up to superheroes. I think that is not wrong to do.

They are a model of how we should be. But they are not that. Our heroes are not us. But if we keep expecting the best from them, maybe, they will become the best of us. Maybe they will inspire us to be better. But we should always examine our heroes. If only to keep ourselves on a better path to being better people. I should take another look at “The Watchmen”….

5:[ My next video will be on Bone Tomahawk. People love to praise it as a new concept, but it really is cowboys killing indigenous people. So, your typical revisionist western….

6:[ Yeah, I think with the new 4K “restorations”, WB is just re-coloring the 80’s/90’s Batman series to look more like the shitty Zack Snyder DC films….

7:[ We cannot go back to “Normal” all after this. In four years, we should see if anything improves for Native Americans or People of Color. If not, then, we only shot democracy in the leg with the incoming administration, rather than killed it….

That is it for this month.

Nothing more to add for this year-end.

As always, I invite you to comment, correct, or contradict anything I write here. I am open to a critical debate. Thanks for taking the time to check out what I write here and I will see you in a month.

Until next time, remember “I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control everything really are.”
